Early this morning (June 14th) several people were shot at an early morning baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia. Several witnesses, political aides, and politicians were hit during the attack. The confirmed victims include Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) among others.
According to Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Al.), he was on deck at a practice for the annual congressional baseball game when the shooting occurred. Scalise was shot in the hip and also two Capitol Hill police agents were shot.
Brooks added there were a number of congressmen and congressional staffers lying on the ground however it was impossible at the time to tell how many individuals were wounded. Brooks added that he used his belt as a tourniquet to help stop the bleeding of one of the unnamed victims.
Details are currently scarce but Brooks stated that the shooter appeared to be a white male. He added that he did not get a good look at him. Brooks believes that at least 50 rounds were fired from a semiautomatic weapon.
Alexandria police tweeted that they were responding to a “multiple shooting” in the city. The tweet also said the suspect is in custody. At the time of the report, no deaths were reported.
