Purple Pain; Judge Voids Prince’s $31 Million Dollar Deal With Universal

On Thursday July 13th, Carver County District Judge Kevin Eide ordered that Universal Music Group will be released from a music rights deal with Prince’s heirs. Universal agreed to a $31 million dollar deal with Prince’s heirs in January.  Ultimately, the bank that administers Prince’s estate, Comerica Bank, petitioned a Minnesota court to cancel the deal because Warner Bros. Records claimed it conflicted with a contract that Prince signed in 2014.
