Everybody knows who Shooter McGavin is, right?
The “Happy Gilmore” star portrayed by actor Christopher McDonald was arrested last week for suspicion of driving under the influence in Los Angeles. According to TMZ, McDonald made a failed attempt to play the celebrity card while police arrested him.
“The eyewitness says McDonald told cops he appeared in “Happy Gilmore.” They were not impressed. McDonald was taken to a nearby jail where he’s being kept until he sobers up. He will be released without bail,” the report said.
Earlier in the day, McDonald attended an Oktoberfest celebration around the Lake Arrowhead area. At around 9 PM McDonald drove his silver Porsche off of the highway and into an embankment.
Luckily, nobody was hurt.
However, this is McDonald’s second alcohol-related arrest while driving in the past four years which makes things a little more serious.
Like many states in the U.S., the state of California’s DUI laws prohibit a person from driving when they have a concentration of .08 percent or more alcohol in their blood system. Although, repeat offenders may not drive with a BAC of .01 or greater.
The penalties for a DUI in California will vary depending on the circumstances of the case. For McDonald, since this is his second offense he faces up to a year in jail and/or a $1,800 fine. McDonald could also have his license suspended for up to two years.
Regardless, McDonald should just be happy that he didn’t seriously injure any innocent people or himself. Drinking and driving is a very serious risk, so hopefully, McDonald gets the help he needs.
The 62-year-old actor continues to do work. In 2017 he starred in the film “Once Upon a Time in Venice” with Bruce Willis. He has also starred in films such as “Requiem for a Dream” and “Thelma & Louise” but everybody knows him as Shooter McGavin..or at least that’s what he thinks.
